Trump reverses plan to charge ships using Strait of Hormuz amid Iran tensions
US President Donald Trump has abandoned a threat, made just 24 hours earlier, to impose a 20% fee on cargo ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The reversal comes as the United States continues efforts to reduce Iran's influence over the strategically vital waterway. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most critical shipping lanes, through which a significant share of global oil supplies passes. Washington is simultaneously preparing to resume a blockade of Iranian ports as part of its broader pressure campaign against Tehran.
