Microsoft billionaire used superyacht as home to dodge property taxes
Microsoft engineer and billionaire Charles Simonyi used a custom-built superyacht as his primary residence to avoid paying property taxes. By living aboard the vessel, he was also able to bypass strict local construction regulations. Simonyi spent roughly half of each year on the yacht while traveling internationally. The strategy predates current debates around taxing the ultra-wealthy in high-tax jurisdictions. He has since upgraded to an even larger superyacht, expanding on his seafaring lifestyle.
