Rivian's R2 SUV hits 50% carbon reduction goal four years ahead of schedule

Rivian has achieved its target of a 50 percent lifetime carbon reduction for its R2 vehicle, originally set for 2030, four years ahead of schedule. The milestone was revealed in the company's 2025 impact report, which outlines its sustainability progress. The R2 was designed from the outset to be greener than Rivian's pricier R1 models, incorporating more renewable energy in production along with recycled and biodegradable materials. The carbon reduction accounts for the vehicle's full lifespan, including manufacturing, driving, and end-of-life stages.
