EU Framework Defines Three Core Components and Seven Requirements for Trustworthy AI

The European Commission's High-Level Expert Group on AI has published Ethics Guidelines for Trustworthy AI, outlining a comprehensive framework for responsible AI development and deployment. According to the guidelines, a trustworthy AI system must be lawful, ethical, and technically robust across its entire lifecycle, from design through deployment. The framework is grounded in fundamental rights, requiring AI systems to protect human dignity, autonomy, equality, and democratic processes. Four ethical principles guide AI behavior, while seven key requirements provide practical benchmarks organizations must meet to ensure their systems remain safe and accountable. The guidelines also offer both technical and non-technical methods, including an assessment checklist, to help organizations implement trustworthy AI in practice.
