Caymus 'CO' Maxson, a 16-year-old from California, founded the youth-led nonprofit Trash Turtles after witnessing beach trash being pushed into the ocean at age 10. Over six years, the organization has conducted more than 50 beach cleanups, clearing debris across over 300 miles of coastline. The group has also recycled 75,000 cigarette butts and removed a total of six tons of waste. Maxson has now been recognized for her environmental efforts with a 2026 Gloria Barron Prize.

Tasmania's Duck Bay wetland is undergoing a significant ecological recovery following sustained efforts to eliminate invasive rice grass. Conservation group Circular Head Landcare reduced the weed's coverage from approximately 50 hectares to just five hectares. The removal of the invasive species allowed native saltmarsh vegetation to return to the area. Researchers from the University of Tasmania documented a rise in fish species from five to eleven, including the return of yellow-eye mullet.
