Wife Cannot Be Denied Maintenance Simply Because Parents Support Her: HC

A High Court has ruled that a wife cannot be denied maintenance on the grounds that her parents are financially supporting her. The ruling came as an appellate review of a December 2023 family court order, which had entirely rejected the wife's maintenance claim. The lower court had, however, granted Rs 3,000 per month in maintenance to each of the couple's children. The High Court's decision reinforces that a husband's legal obligation to maintain his wife remains independent of any support she may receive from her own family.
