Why AI Agents Need Individual IDs and Work Histories to Stay Accountable

When multiple AI agents share a single service account, tracing which agent performed which action becomes nearly impossible, creating accountability gaps when systems fail. Shared API keys and service accounts work for individual use but break down when several agents operate simultaneously across different roles with varying permission needs. A platform called Octo addresses this by assigning each AI agent an 'AgentCard' that tracks its creator, owner, permissions, task history, rejection count, and areas of strength. Permissions are tied to the human owner's access level, meaning an agent can never exceed what its assigned user is allowed to do. This approach turns agent assignment from guesswork into a data-driven decision and satisfies audit requirements without additional configuration.
