Wampanoag Nonprofit Raises $8M to Reclaim Ancestral Martha's Vineyard Land

A Native-led nonprofit has successfully raised $8 million to reacquire a historically significant property on Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts. The land holds deep cultural and ancestral importance to the Wampanoag community. Known as the Aquinnah Land Initiative, the organization plans to restore the site — formerly home to the Aquinnah Shop restaurant — for community purposes. A state grant has played a key role in funding both the acquisition and the ongoing maintenance of the cliffside location.
