Volvo adds vehicle-to-vehicle hazard alerts for animals and road users

Volvo is rolling out new connected safety features across three of its electric vehicle models. The system allows Volvo cars to automatically detect and share road hazards — such as animals or vulnerable road users — with other vehicles in the fleet. Unlike crowdsourced tools such as Google Maps or Waze, the alerts rely on data collected directly from Volvo's own passenger vehicles. When a car's sensors identify a hazard, its location is logged and transmitted to Volvo's servers, which then push alerts to nearby drivers. The feature is currently active for Volvo fleets operating in Europe, the United States, and Canada.
