Vijay Urges PM Modi to Cap Lok Sabha Seats at 543 Amid Delimitation Fears

Tamil Nadu politician Vijay has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to freeze the number of Lok Sabha seats at the current 543. The letter highlights concerns over the upcoming delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly constituencies. Vijay drew the PM's attention to a resolution passed by the Tamil Nadu Assembly on August 12, 2026, which addressed these delimitation concerns. The letter also raised the issue of implementing 33 per cent reservation for women in legislative bodies. Southern states have long feared that delimitation could reduce their political representation due to their success in population control.
