A consumer commission has upheld a lower forum's order directing Indian Railways to pay Rs 2 lakh in compensation to a family whose trip to Amritsar was disrupted. Train services had been suspended due to a protest, leaving passengers stranded for hours. Railways failed to adequately inform or assist affected passengers during the disruption. The commission ruled that this failure to communicate and support passengers amounted to a deficiency in service. Railways' appeal against the compensation order was dismissed, keeping the original award intact.
