GhostTrace Uses Local Open-Weight AI to Hunt Breach Traces Without Cloud Exposure

A developer built GhostTrace, a digital forensics tool for analyzing compromised-server logs, as an entry in a Hacktoberfest open-source AI challenge themed around ghosts. The tool runs open-weight models such as Llama 3.2 3B and Gemma 3 4B locally through Ollama, so sensitive internal logs never leave the machine. It ingests JSON and JSONL system logs, includes synthetic sample cases, and offers a raw-file preview for checking the required schema. To limit AI hallucination, its findings are generated by deterministic detection rules first, with AI output checked against citations, and the interface pairs this with a 3D visual scene and procedural audio.

How a single ApkPy button line becomes Android layout and Java code

The author traces how one line of Python in ApkPy, defining a button, is transformed during the build into an Android layout entry, a Java click listener, and a callback method. Each screen maps to an Android Activity, and the compiler parses the Python syntax tree and resolves theme and style inputs rather than running the file directly. Helper components such as media services or networking permissions are generated only when the source requests them, which keeps simple apps small. The generated Android project is readable and can be opened in Android Studio, but the Python source remains the source of truth since the output can be regenerated. The article notes that version 1.14.1 added classes, dataclasses and custom errors, allowing methods to be used as button commands.

API Evangelist Daily Covers Brale Docs, Agent Discoverability and MCP Maintenance

The API Evangelist Daily for October 28, 2026 surveys recent developments across the API ecosystem. It highlights an essay on how advertising agreed on a common shape for its data exchange long ago, and an argument that Australian government data remains hard for AI agents to discover. Commentary also examines whether MCP servers can complete the work they are meant to do, and how their maintenance burden depends on design choices. Brale has relaunched its developer documentation around a supported integration path, while a catalog record still lists a deprecated page. The newsletter also features a conversation with GSMA's Henry Calvert about the Open Gateway APIs being developed under the CAMARA project.
