US Removes Syria From Terror Sponsor List, Lifts HTS Designation After 47 Years

The United States has removed Syria from its State Sponsor of Terrorism list, ending a designation that had been in place for nearly five decades. The decision was announced by the US Department of State as part of a significant policy shift toward Syria. Alongside this move, the State Department also revoked its designation of al-Nusrah Front, widely known as Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), as a global terrorist organisation. HTS has played a prominent role in Syria's recent political transition following the fall of Bashar al-Assad's government.
