Uganda to relocate 12 Nubian giraffes to revive poaching-hit Ajai Wildlife Reserve

Uganda plans to transfer 12 endangered Nubian giraffes from Murchison Falls National Park to Ajai Wildlife Reserve, which was once devastated by poaching. The move is partly driven by the need to shield the species from oil drilling and habitat pressures near Murchison Falls. Ajai Wildlife Reserve is currently undergoing ecological restoration, with several animal species being reintroduced to rebuild its biodiversity. Local communities are involved in and benefit from the conservation programme. The initiative aims to balance ongoing development activities with long-term wildlife preservation goals.
