TypeSafe AI's Jev model offers faster, cheaper AI classification than LLMs

A startup called TypeSafe AI launched Jev, a model designed for rapid classification tasks without generating text. The company claims Jev performs these tasks up to 200 times faster and at 400 times lower cost than comparable large language models. Following its announcement, a group called NobodyWho published a blog post demonstrating a similar function using a much smaller, locally run model in 25 lines of Python. This sparked significant online debate about the necessity and novelty of Jev's core technology.
