TMC Faction Adopts Football Player Symbol After EC Freezes Original Party Logo

The Mamata Banerjee-led faction of the Trinamool Congress has officially unveiled a football player as its new party symbol ahead of the October 6 bypolls. The Election Commission had frozen the TMC's well-known name and flowers-and-grass symbol due to an internal dispute over control of the party. The EC subsequently allotted the football player symbol to the Banerjee camp for use in the upcoming elections. Banerjee's faction has challenged the EC's order in the Supreme Court, which is set to hear the case. Meanwhile, the group is working to build voter recognition around its new identity before polling day.
