A new study reported by the University of California suggests that GLP-1 drugs, a popular class of weight-loss medications, may slow the biological aging process. The source material provided is limited to a link to the university's announcement and a Hacker News discussion thread, so specific methodology, sample size, and quantitative findings could not be verified here. Researchers' conclusions appear to be preliminary, and further independent confirmation would be needed before firm claims can be made. The findings have drawn attention on technology and science forums, reflecting wider interest in whether these medications offer benefits beyond weight loss. Readers should consult the original university release for full details on the study design and its limitations.
An OpenDemocracy investigation reports that Amazon used AI-driven surveillance to monitor the likelihood of union activity at its UK warehouses. The reporting focuses on facilities in the Birmingham and Coventry area, including a site in Sutton Coldfield. The article was shared on Hacker News, where it gained modest attention. Details beyond the headline and the source's framing could not be verified from the information provided. The story raises questions about how workplace monitoring technology may be used in relation to labour organising.
PaperPilot is an invoice and expense assistant built for freelancers, consultants, and small agencies that struggle with folders of PDF invoices at tax time. The app uses Gemma, Google's open-weight model accessed through the Gemini API, to extract vendor details, dates, GST amounts, and totals from digital PDFs. Its validation layer checks the AI's output, flagging mismatched totals, invalid GSTINs, and unequal CGST and SGST values for human review. Duplicate detection, overdue flags, and bank statement matching are handled with ordinary code rather than AI, and personal identifiers are redacted before any text is sent to the model. Because Gemma's weights are public, the same model could later be self-hosted by users who need full control over their data.
A developer who builds a form backend checked nine HTML contact form snippets from leading search results on 13 October 2026 by reading their code without submitting anything. Only five would send a message anywhere, and three of those come from form-backend companies, leaving just one independent snippet that delivers a message as pasted. None of the nine set autocomplete attributes or included spam protection in the code itself. Several other snippets had defects such as missing field names, unclosed tags that hid the submit button, or actions that pointed nowhere. The author noted that three of the four non-sending forms never informed the reader of this limitation.
