The Allahabad High Court has suspended the conviction of Nandlal Rai, alias Babloo Rai, who had been found guilty by a Varanasi sessions court in 2025 in a 2017 murder case. A two-judge bench, comprising Justice Siddharth and Justice Vinai Kumar Dwivedi, passed the order while hearing Rai's criminal appeal. Rai had expressed a wish to contest elections, which was part of the context in which the court paused the conviction. The order marks an interim relief in the appeal rather than a final verdict on the case. Further hearings will determine the outcome of the appeal against the conviction.
