Studies Show AI Citation Consistency Varies Greatly Between Identical Queries

Recent studies show AI models often provide different sources when asked the same question multiple times. One October 2026 study found cited domains changed significantly between identical runs, with overlap scores of 0.664 for OpenAI, 0.515 for Claude, and 0.319 for Gemini. Another study that same month found single questions could swing drastically, with one ChatGPT answer losing all its supporting figures on a repeat query. Researchers conclude that checking an AI's answer once provides limited insight into citation stability. The findings highlight the inherent variability in how different AI engines generate and attach sources to their responses.

AI Agent vs. Simple LLM Call: Guidelines for Architectural Choice

The term 'agent' is often overused in AI application design. A simple LLM call is sufficient when an application requires a single transformation or judgment with predictable output. A workflow architecture is appropriate when multiple steps are needed but the execution order is predetermined by code. An AI agent becomes necessary only when the model itself must dynamically decide the next action based on intermediate results, such as in open-ended investigations.

New AI tool REA enables local binary analysis and reverse engineering

A new tool called REA (Reverse Engineer Anything) enables software analysis using artificial intelligence. The system allows developers to analyze native binaries, JavaScript, Electron apps, and .NET assemblies directly from their terminal. REA operates locally, ensuring proprietary code and sensitive binaries never leave the user's machine. It provides evidence-based explanations by citing specific binary offsets or code blocks for verifiable analysis. The tool is designed for integration with AI agents via the Model Context Protocol and requires local decompilers like Ghidra or IDA Pro.
