Amit Shah Champions Multilingualism Under NEP as Key to India's Cultural Identity

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has linked the promotion of Indian languages to cultural nationalism, framing it as a matter of national pride. Speaking on the occasion, Shah defended the multilingualism provisions enshrined in the National Education Policy (NEP) as essential to India's identity. He argued that linguistic diversity strengthens rather than divides the country, citing Maharashtra as a strong example of a multilingual state. Shah also remarked that it took 80 years to fully restore the glory of Vande Mataram, underscoring the importance of cultural revival. The NEP, he noted, is designed to foster greater familiarity among citizens with India's diverse languages and cultures.

Socorro Island forest rebounds to 85% after feral sheep removal program

Feral sheep introduced to Mexico's Socorro Island caused severe ecological damage over many years, stripping away significant vegetation cover. A targeted eradication program successfully removed 1,762 sheep between 2009 and 2012. Once grazing pressure ended, vegetation and soil conditions recovered rapidly, with forest cover climbing to 85%. The rebound highlighted the island's strong natural capacity for ecological self-repair. Conservation efforts continue, however, as other invasive species such as feral cats still pose a threat to the island's ecosystem.
