Switzerland Gets Internet Archive Mirror, Inspiring Parallel to VR Amblyopia Therapy

A new Swiss mirror of the Internet Archive, internetarchive.ch, launched this week to provide geographic redundancy and reduce the risk of a single point of failure taking the archive offline. A developer drew a parallel between this distributed-systems thinking and dichoptic VR therapy for amblyopia, a condition where one eye is weaker than the other. Traditional treatment relies on patching the dominant eye, which suffers from poor compliance and does not train both eyes to work together. A Meta Quest app called Amblyotube, built by Seven Sports, instead delivers YouTube-style video with separate visual processing for each eye simultaneously, embedding the therapy within content users choose to watch. The app uses AI-driven sharpening, adjustable blur, color cues, and flicker effects per eye, leveraging the Quest headset's ability to render independent images for each eye without specialised medical hardware.
