Study finds self-hosted email shrinking as two providers dominate the web

A new analysis published by RIPE NCC researcher Artem Berezin examined email infrastructure across the Tranco top 1 million websites. The study found that self-hosted email continues to decline steeply, with the market increasingly consolidated around just two major providers. A stubborn plateau was observed among a small group of mid-tier providers, while a long tail of smaller services persists. The findings highlight a growing dependence on centralized email infrastructure across the broader web.
