Perplexity is entering the work-focused AI agent market, competing with rivals OpenAI and Anthropic. Its new always-on agents, called Teammates, can be assigned multiple roles within a workspace. They draw on existing projects, skills, and memory from Perplexity tools a user already uses. Teammates are designed to work alongside Perplexity Computer, an AI system that deploys agents on a user's device, and the company says they add collaboration for ongoing, large-scale work. Each Teammate can be given different jobs to perform simultaneously.
Salon, one of the earliest online-only news magazines, has announced it will stop publishing. The outlet said in an unsigned post that the economics of independent digital journalism have shifted considerably and its publishing model is no longer viable. The company offered no detailed explanation, though many news websites are struggling with declining search referral traffic and the rise of AI tools. General manager Amanda Wolfe directed comment requests to the announcement rather than adding further detail.
A week before the midterm elections, Vice President JD Vance held a town hall in Texas with Fox News host Jesse Watters. A college student, who identified herself as a Turning Point USA chapter leader, asked how young people could afford to settle down and have children given rising living costs. Vance responded with a joke about Senate candidate Jon Husted rather than a substantive answer. The exchange, in a friendly setting, has been widely discussed as an example of how the event was received. The article argues it reflected broader frustrations within the political conversation about X, formerly Twitter.
Google is giving schools some flexibility in how they use its education tools, allowing them to opt out of Gemini. However, the company has made AI-powered search mandatory, meaning schools cannot keep traditional search without it. The article argues that this offers schools less real choice than the policy might appear to suggest. The source is Ars Technica, and the report focuses on how the options are structured rather than on new product details. Few additional specifics about the rollout or timing were provided in the excerpt.
