Nepal flood families hold symbolic cremations as search for missing victims fades

Families in Nepal's Nuwakot and Rasuwa districts have turned to symbolic cremation rituals after failing to recover the bodies of relatives lost in recent floods. Unable to perform traditional last rites, grieving kin used effigies made of kusha grass as stand-ins for the deceased. Search efforts across multiple locations yielded no results, leaving families with little hope of finding their loved ones. Hindu priests guided the bereaved through ancient rituals intended to help liberate the souls of the missing. More than a hundred such effigies were cremated at Kathmandu's Pashupati Aryaghat, one of Nepal's most sacred cremation sites.

Karnataka suspends IAS officer Gangwar amid KPSC recruitment irregularities probe

The Karnataka government has suspended IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar in connection with alleged irregularities in Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) recruitments. Gangwar, who served as Controller of Examinations at KPSC during the period under scrutiny, is currently in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department. The CID is actively investigating the commission's alleged wrongdoings, while the Directorate of Enforcement is separately pursuing its own inquiry into the matter. His suspension takes immediate effect and will remain in place pending the outcome of the ongoing investigations.

8th Pay Commission: Higher increments could boost Level 8 staff earnings by Rs 28.89 lakh

Central government employee unions have raised concerns that the existing 3% annual increment fails to keep up with rising living costs. These bodies have formally recommended increasing the annual increment rate to between 5% and 7%. If the 8th Pay Commission accepts these proposals, Level 8 employees could see significantly higher salary growth over a decade. A 5% or 7% increment rate would directly accelerate the pay progression of central government staff. The potential cumulative gain for Level 8 employees over 10 years could reach up to Rs 28.89 lakh compared to the current structure.
