Six Million Afghans Deported from Pakistan and Iran Struggle to Rebuild Lives

More than six million Afghans have been forcibly deported and compelled to restart their lives under Taliban rule. The deportations have come primarily from neighboring countries Pakistan and Iran. By August of this year, the number of returnees had already reached an additional one million. Many of those deported have little or no connection to Afghanistan, with some never having lived there before. The mass returns present a significant humanitarian challenge as displaced individuals attempt to settle in an unfamiliar country under Taliban governance.
