SC Judge: Tiny Fraction of Kumbh Funds Could Have Saved 100+ Marathi Schools

Supreme Court Justice Prasanna Varale raised serious concerns about the rapid decline of Marathi-medium schools in India. He argued that redirecting even 0.1% of the Rs 32,000 crore allocated for Kumbh could have prevented the closure of over 100 such institutions. The judge highlighted deteriorating conditions in residential schools and flagged reported student deaths linked to neglect. Justice Varale stressed that government spending on education has failed to keep pace with growing student needs. He urged authorities to urgently modernise schools with digital infrastructure to improve the quality of education.
