Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 scores 4/10 for repairability due to hinge dust vulnerability

iFixit has provisionally rated the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 a 4 out of 10 for repairability following a detailed teardown of the $1,900 device. The main concern centers on the phone's IP48 ingress rating, which offers no protection against particles smaller than 1 millimeter, leaving the hinge exposed to dust and sand. During testing, iFixit reported that repeated opening and closing caused the hinge to emit grinding noises and the phone to stop functioning normally. Samsung has historically treated the hinge and inner display as a single replacement unit, which further complicates and likely increases the cost of repairs.
