Reddit explains multi-day process behind simple orange button change

Reddit's development team recently changed its comment button to orange for Halloween. The simple color shift required a multi-day process due to the platform's scale and complexity. Anthropic enforces rule to prevent AI model 'distillation' by third parties.

Anthropic has implemented a rule called 'preserved thinking' to prevent the extraction and reuse of its Claude AI's reasoning processes. This rule, which makes message history append-only for new API accounts, is a defense against other labs training their own models on Claude's outputs. The enforcement began for accounts created on or after August 31, 2026, and has required some developers to update their integrations. Anthropic states these anti-distillation measures have reduced harvested data by 90 to 99%.

Developer shares checklist to preserve keyboard focus after website redesigns

A developer explains that website redesigns often inadvertently break keyboard navigation by removing visual focus indicators. They assert this is a common issue stemming from CSS resets, component library changes, or new themes like dark mode. The author recommends a proactive six-point checklist to test and preserve accessibility before launching a redesigned site. They advise using the CSS selector :focus-visible to ensure focus rings are visible for keyboard users but not for mouse users. This practice is crucial for accessibility, supporting power users, screen reader users, and those with motor impairments.

Docker cache mounts explained for reliable multi-stage builds

A developer article explains Docker's two cache mechanisms: instruction/layer cache and cache mounts. It presents a helper function to validate cache mount parameters in Dockerfiles for multi-stage builds. The helper ensures mount targets use safe characters and absolute paths while providing sensible defaults. Cache mounts reduce download costs during rebuilds but don't persist across fresh builder instances. This approach helps developers troubleshoot Docker build performance separately from CI environment issues.
