Two Stray Marmots Found in Bay Area Released Back Near Lake Tahoe

Two yellow-bellied marmots were discovered far from their natural mountain habitat in San Francisco and Antioch in September. Wildlife rescuers believe the animals likely hitched unintentional rides inside vehicles from the Sierra Nevada or Lake Tahoe region. After spending 18 days in care, both marmots were successfully released at an elevation of approximately 7,800 feet near Lake Tahoe. The unusual incidents drew attention to the risk of marmots inadvertently climbing into parked vehicles in mountain areas.

Rampal, a visually impaired artist from Basti, Uttar Pradesh, has been sculpting intricate religious idols since the age of four. Working out of Kolkata under his father's guidance, he relies entirely on touch to create lifelike figures of deities such as Durga and Ganesha. Over the course of his career, he has produced more than 700 sculptures, with an annual output of around 30 to 40 pieces. Rampal also prioritises sustainability by using eco-friendly materials in his craft. His work not only showcases remarkable artistic ability but also serves as the primary means of supporting his family.
