Philadelphia dev builds memory-powered AI barista to ease neurodivergent ordering anxiety

A Philadelphia developer and coffee shop owner has built Franklin, a conversational AI ordering assistant for BrewHub PHL in the Point Breeze neighborhood. Franklin remembers each customer's drink preferences, communication style, and personal notes so they never have to repeat themselves across visits. The system was designed by the developer, who is neurodivergent himself, after years of abandoning purchases due to the social friction of in-person checkout lines. Beyond accessibility, the project targets a broader retail problem: physical cart abandonment caused by high interaction costs. Franklin also includes safety features such as server-side pricing controls and a three-layer allergen check to ensure its friendly tone cannot be exploited.
