Pakistan Seeks Canadian Backing to Revive Suspended Indus Waters Treaty with India

Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has appealed to Canada for support in reviving the Indus Waters Treaty, which India suspended earlier this year. Dar accused India of weaponising water resources and called on New Delhi to honour its international obligations. India, however, maintains that the treaty's implementation remains in abeyance due to cross-border terrorism concerns. Pakistan considers the Indus river system critical to its survival and has vowed to defend its rights over the waters. The dispute adds a new dimension to the already strained relations between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
