Over 40 Rust Community Events Planned Worldwide for November-December 2026

Between November 5 and December 4, 2026, the Rust programming community will host more than 40 events across 15 countries and several online platforms. The gatherings range from embedded systems workshops in Italy to game jams in the United States. The article argues that scattered event listings make it hard for attendees to find relevant events and for organizers to market them. It proposes a structured, searchable format with geographic filters, topic tags, and time zone conversions to address these problems.

Split AI-generated Storybook stories into one interaction each

A developer found that asking an AI agent for Storybook coverage produced a single mega-story bundling many states behind knobs, which reviewers rarely inspected and which hid failures. They adopted a rule of one interaction or meaningful state per story, such as Default, Empty, Loading, Error, Disabled, and KeyboardFocus. Separate stories are easier to screenshot for visual regression, review, and reproduce when they fail. The author also outlines acceptable and rejected patterns, such as avoiding state-switching Controls and "all states" grids as sole coverage. The post recommends that reviewers request splitting mega-stories rather than debating taste.

Azure Managed Identity vs Service Principal: When to Use Each

A managed identity is in fact a special-type service principal in Entra ID, so the real distinction lies in who manages the credential. With a managed identity, Azure creates, stores and rotates the credential, and it cannot be read by users, while a regular service principal requires you to create, store and replace a secret or certificate yourself. Managed identities come in system-assigned form, tied to a single resource's lifecycle, and user-assigned form, which exists independently and can be shared across resources. Microsoft recommends managed identities with Azure RBAC as the default for Azure-to-Azure connections, and user-assigned identities for scenarios involving many resources or pre-provisioned access. Service principals remain necessary for workloads outside Azure compute, such as CI/CD runners, on-premises servers or other clouds.

Developer Shares Lessons From Building Three Small Browser-Based Web Projects

A developer describes three small browser games and tools built mostly in vanilla JavaScript: PickTests, a set of ten reaction, memory, and attention tests; WheelPage, which offers a spinning wheel plus coin, dice, and other random utilities; and 2048 Cupcakes, a variant of the classic 2048 puzzle. Working on them shifted the developer's focus from whether features function to whether interactions feel obvious, feedback makes sense, and the tool is worth choosing over alternatives. The write-up highlights how even simple mechanics require careful decisions, such as handling early clicks in reaction tests and explaining what measured timings represent given browser rendering and display delays. The developer also notes that small rule details, like preventing a newly merged tile from merging again in one move, substantially affect how the game plays.

How Pixels, PPI and Print Size Determine Image Sharpness

A guide for beginners explains why digital images can look sharp on screens but blurry in print. It defines a pixel as the smallest unit of a digital image and notes that pixel count alone does not set physical size. Resolution, measured in pixels per inch (PPI), determines how densely pixels fill each inch when printed. The article distinguishes PPI from DPI, which refers to the ink dots a printer lays down. It also shows that the same pixel dimensions produce different physical sizes at different PPI values, so converting pixels to inches always requires considering resolution.
