New York to ban smart glasses from all 1,240 courthouses from July 20

New York will become the first US state to prohibit smart glasses in courthouses, with the ban taking effect on July 20. The rule covers any eyewear or headwear equipped with cameras, microphones, or recording technology, including prescription smart glasses. All individuals entering the courts — including staff and attorneys — must hand over such devices to court officers. The policy spans more than 1,240 courts across the state. The measure is aimed at preventing the secret recording of court proceedings.
