BRICS member nations are in discussions about settling trade in local currencies to lower transaction costs, India's Ministry of External Affairs has clarified. However, there is no proposal on the table for a unified BRICS currency. The initiative is intended to work alongside existing global payment systems rather than replace them, with the goal of improving trade efficiency. Member leaders also discussed removing trade barriers and strengthening the World Trade Organization. These deliberations came after eight months of groundwork carried out under India's BRICS chairship.

Himachal Pradesh to Disburse Rs 1,500 to 2.5 Lakh Women on Gandhi Jayanti

The Himachal Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, is set to launch a financial assistance scheme for women on October 2. Under the initiative, around 2.5 lakh women will each receive Rs 1,500 as direct monetary support. The rollout coincides with Gandhi Jayanti, lending symbolic significance to the launch date. Alongside the cash transfer, the state government also plans to introduce a free electricity scheme targeting ultra-poor households. Both measures are part of the Sukhu administration's broader welfare agenda aimed at supporting economically vulnerable sections of society.
