NCDRC Orders Dealer to Pay Rs 9.2 Lakh for Selling Demo Car as New

India's National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has ruled in favor of a buyer who was sold a used demo vehicle as a brand-new car by a Tata Motors dealer. The customer had purchased a Tata Manza Elan that had already been in use as a test-drive vehicle for eight months. While a state commission had previously held Tata Motors jointly responsible alongside the dealer, the NCDRC overturned that decision, clearing the manufacturer of any liability. The apex consumer court restored the original district commission order, directing the dealer alone to refund the purchase amount and pay compensation totaling over Rs 9.2 lakh.
