NASA-Funded Study Dates a Rose-Colored Sahara Meteorite as Ancient Martian Rock

A rose-colored meteorite discovered in the Sahara Desert in 2022 initially had an unknown origin and age. NASA-funded scientists later dated its minerals and found that the roughly 800-gram rock came from Mars. Its formation more than 4.1 billion years ago places it among the oldest known Martian meteorites. The findings help researchers understand the planet's earliest geological history. The study underscores how desert finds can yield significant insights into the Red Planet.
