NASA Links Fault Management and Model-Based Engineering for Autonomous Missions

NASA is working to enable fully autonomous space missions by integrating fault management (FM) with model-based systems engineering (MBSE). The initiative addresses the need for spacecraft to detect and respond to faults without any human intervention. By connecting these two disciplines, engineers can provide model-based support for both system design and in-mission operations. The approach has already been successfully demonstrated through model-based generation of key mission components. This development marks a significant step toward self-sufficient, human-independent space exploration.
