Microsoft Entra's identity governance framework addresses a critical gap that arises when the human sponsor of an AI agent leaves an organisation or changes roles, potentially leaving the agent without a clear business owner. Sponsors are responsible for validating why an agent exists, whether it should retain access, and who approves future changes — making their continuity essential to sound governance. Without a sponsor-continuity process, agents risk becoming orphaned, over-permissioned, or operationally unclear over time.
