Google is rolling out a new safety feature in Chrome that alerts users when a website may be malicious before they open it. The warnings apply when Chrome's Enhanced Protection setting is turned on. They extend a two-tier system Chrome already uses for downloads since 2024, which distinguishes between files labeled suspicious and those labeled dangerous. A site is flagged as suspicious when it shares characteristics with sites previously linked to phishing, malware, or scams. The change is aimed at helping people make more informed decisions about whether to visit a page.

The article is brief and centers on this single assessment rather than detailing specific companies or funding figures.
