Mautic uses AI tool Promptless to cut docs update time by 3.5x

Open-source marketing platform Mautic struggled for years to keep its user and developer documentation current, with volunteer developers consistently deprioritising docs updates alongside their regular workloads. The project adopted Promptless, an AI documentation tool, after discovering it through the WriteTech Hub community, integrating it directly with their code repositories across multiple version branches. When a developer opens a pull request, Promptless automatically drafts a corresponding documentation update, marking it ready for review once the code is merged. In roughly four months, Promptless contributed 129 merged documentation PRs, compared to 392 from human contributors over more than four years, with average turnaround dropping from 98 days to 27 days. Human reviewers — both developers and the Education Team — still verify each AI-generated draft for accuracy and style before it goes live.
