Madras HC strikes down Tamil Nadu order giving jobs to Karur stampede victims' kin

The Madras High Court has struck down a Tamil Nadu government order that granted government jobs to family members of victims of the Karur stampede. A division bench comprising Justices C V Karthikeyan and R Sakthivel passed the ruling. The court was hearing a batch of public interest litigations that sought to block the state from issuing such appointment orders. The petitioners had challenged the government's move to extend employment benefits to the relatives of the stampede victims. The bench ruled in favour of the petitioners and set aside the state's directive.
