Low Danube waters uncover two WWII German soldiers and wartime relics in Budapest

Unusually low water levels in the Danube River near Budapest have brought decades-old World War II remains to the surface. Recovery teams discovered the skeletal remains of two Wehrmacht soldiers close to Batthyány Square in the Hungarian capital. Alongside the bodies, crews retrieved well-preserved identity discs, a German military motorcycle, anti-tank mines, and other wartime artefacts. The items had lain submerged for approximately 80 years since the war's final stages. Authorities hope the identity discs will help name the soldiers and shed light on the closing days of the Battle of Budapest.
