Lattice: Open-Source Rust LLM Engine Built Natively for Apple Silicon Macs

Lattice is a new open-source machine learning inference and training engine written entirely in Rust, designed specifically for Apple Silicon Macs. Unlike conventional setups, it requires no Python, C++, or CUDA dependencies, instead implementing the full ML compute stack natively in Rust. The engine leverages Apple's unified memory architecture through hand-written Metal shaders and ARM NEON CPU kernels to maximize performance on M-series chips. Developers can use Lattice to run, quantize, and fine-tune large language models locally, including LoRA fine-tuning directly on a MacBook. A companion app called Lattice Studio, built with SwiftUI, provides a visual interface for model management, training visualization, and chat testing.
