Heavy rainfall triggered severe flooding in Chitrakoot, Madhya Pradesh, after the Mandakini river burst its banks and inundated large parts of the town. The Indian Air Force deployed helicopters to airlift people stranded by the rising waters. Three State Disaster Response Force teams were simultaneously deployed to evacuate residents to safety, with relief shelters set up for displaced people. A dam breach in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh further aggravated the crisis in the region. Water levels in the Mandakini began to recede on Saturday night after the rains temporarily subsided.
