A new visual design tool called Kavro has been released for the Dear ImGui framework. It allows developers to design user interfaces visually rather than through code. The tool is aimed primarily at game development and other software projects. It was announced via the DEV Community platform on October 9.

A developer created GreenRoute, a local-first AI router, to intelligently direct user prompts between local and cloud-based AI models. The system, built as a small Python service, classifies requests and checks device conditions before routing tasks. It estimates the environmental footprint of each response by comparing it to a default cloud-only baseline. The goal is to provide a practical tool that optimizes for performance, cost, and energy efficiency based on real-time device status.
A security review of the Bitget DeFi platform, published on October 14, 2026, identified significant vulnerabilities in its on-chain governance system. The review found critical issues, including a highly concentrated token supply and misconfigured timelock contracts on several layer-2 networks. These weaknesses create a substantial attack surface, allowing a minority of token holders to potentially execute malicious proposals. The overall risk to the platform's governance layer was rated as high.
A software engineer critiques reliance on code coverage percentages in technical interviews. They argue such metrics only show which lines of code were executed, not what was actually verified. The engineer suggests better interview responses involve discussing specific risks and test strategies for critical system parts. The author shares personal preparation methods, including using practice platforms for various technical rounds.
Database indexes can speed up queries but come with trade-offs, as each index adds overhead to write operations like inserts and updates. An index only benefits a query if it can be used, with conditions like wrapping a column in a function negating its advantage. The order of columns in a composite index is critical; filter columns used with equality should come before those used for ordering. Idempotency, where repeating an operation yields the same result, solves reliability issues in distributed systems by making retries safe after network failures.
