Consumer Commission Awards Rs 2.16 Lakh to Parents After Cord Blood Sample Discarded

A consumer commission has ordered Cordlife Sciences India to pay over Rs 2.16 lakh to a couple after the company discarded their newborn's cord blood sample over a delayed payment. The commission ruled that the company had engaged in unfair trade practices by destroying the sample without giving the parents an opportunity to clear their dues. It was noted that the couple had never outright refused to make the payment. As part of the order, Cordlife Sciences India was directed to refund the initial amount paid and also cover compensation and legal costs.
