Satellite Images Point to Ice-Rock Landslide as Cause of Nepal Flash Floods

Satellite imagery analyzed by Planet Labs has revealed a likely cause behind the devastating flash floods in Nepal. The analysis, shared by Nepal's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, identified an ice-rock landslide as the trigger. The landslide occurred approximately 20 kilometres northeast of the Rasuwagadhi border crossing between Nepal and China. It generated a debris-filled flood that surged through the Lhende Khola river valley, causing widespread destruction downstream.
