Iowa rescue mission converts thrift store into 46-bed homeless shelter

Dubuque Rescue Mission in Iowa is shutting down its thrift store to repurpose the space as a 46-bed emergency shelter for men. The move comes in response to growing homelessness and increasing demand for shelter services in the city. The conversion will also help free up additional space for women and children, in partnership with local organization Opening Doors. Donated goods that would have gone to the thrift store will be redirected to another store or partner organizations focused on women's needs.
