India to add fourth rail tracks on 7 high-density routes spanning 11,000 km

India is expanding seven of its busiest railway corridors to four tracks, covering approximately 11,000 kilometres in total. The move was announced by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to address growing demand for both passenger and freight services. The expansion targets high-density routes where existing infrastructure is under significant strain. Adding more tracks is expected to increase line capacity, reduce congestion, and improve the overall efficiency of train operations across the country.
