India proposes 2-month probe, 3-month trial limit under anti-cheating law amendment

The Indian government has introduced the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill to overhaul its existing anti-cheating legislation. Under the proposed changes, investigations into exam-related offences must be completed within two months. The bill grants the Central Government authority to set up special fast-track courts wherever deemed necessary to handle such cases. Trials in these courts would proceed on a day-to-day basis and must conclude within three months of the chargesheet being filed.
